The Weather Man 2005 Movie – Storyline:
Dave Spritz is a local weatherman in his hometown of Chicago, where his career is going well, while his personal life, his relationship with his perfectionist writer father, his neurotic ex-wife, and his now-separated children, is spiraling downward. Despite being loathed and loved by the local masses, Dave is a guy who doesn’t seem to have it all together, and in this movie, he begins to feel it. An attractive job offer presents Dave with a major question: to pursue his career in New York City or remain at home with his family.
The Weather Man Full Movie Review:
Dave Spritz (Nicolas Cage) is a local Chicago weatherman and people who don’t like his forecasts throw stuff at him sometimes. His highly regarded successful writer father Robert Spritzel (Michael Caine) is disappointed in him and is diagnosed with lymphoma. Dave is estranged from his wife Noreen (Hope Davis). He is looking to get a more prestigious job in NYC. He’s not connecting with his kids. His son Mike (Nicholas Hoult) is getting crept on by his counselor Don Bowden (Gil Bellows). His daughter Shelly is chubby and abandons her archery. He decides to take up her bow and arrow for himself. The humor is dark and dry. The monotone and the bluish hue keep everything down. He is so suppressed as a character that I don’t buy him as a weatherman. It has just enough dark quirkiness. It’s a depressing comedy with a chance for an afternoon humor break.
