Skins (Season 1) (2007) – Storyline:
Skins (TV Series 2007): Series One and Two focuses on a group of British teens trying to grow up and learn about love and life with little adult supervision (and lots of PARTYING). Sid tries to be everyone’s friend and usually ends up on the short end of the stick. He is mostly manipulated by best friend Tony, whose girlfriend Michelle he is in love with. Tony is one to try anything once, including every girl he meets. He manipulates not only Sid and Michelle but anyone else who will let him.
Anwar is just looking to lose his virginity, and though he is Muslim, it rarely stops him from partying excessively. Gay and popular friend Maxxie is along for the ride while trying to pursue his dream of being a dancer and actor in London. Cassie, an anorexic basket case, is in love with Sid, who overlooks her time and time again. Strait-laced Jal wants to focus on her musical ambitions.

Series 1 introduced the “first generation” of characters, which are featured in both Series 1 and Series 2. They are replaced in Series 3 by the “second generation”. It takes place during the character’s first year of sixth form (equivalent to junior year of high school in North America).

‘Skins (Season 1) 2007’: TV Review:
In 2007, I sat down to watch the first series of “Skins” not really knowing what to think before it started but as it did, I found myself getting more involved in the characters’ lives and was able to place myself into their situations. Absolutely superb acting by all of the cast, young and older, a fantastic script, Outstanding communication with the young public, and faces the real-life problems young people face these days.
About a Boy’s Nicholas Hoult is amazing, I was blown away by his performance as Tony, a moody teenager that has two sides to him, spiteful and sweet, Mike Bailey also gives a great performance as his shy character Sid Jenkins who is slowly evolving into more of a confident character because of Cassie (his girlfriend) played by Hannah Murray who in my eyes gives one of the strongest female performances in Channel 4 history, she gives her character an unusual, almost spooky gift about her.
It kind of creeps you out a little but you can tell she is sweet in the heart. One of the strongest male performances in the show is played by Dev Patel, who in the show is Anwar, the desperate for a girlfriend Asian teenager who is best friends with the gay character Maxxie, played by Mitch Hewer, who in my opinion gives one of the best male performances in TV history, outstanding! I was blown away by his performance in the stalker storyline with Sketch, who also gives a brilliant performance.
All together Skins is an amazing show and I advise people of all ages to watch it! Other main characters include Michelle, Jal, Chris.
