Henry’s Crime 2010 Movie – Storyline:
Released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit, an ex-con targeted the same bank he was sent away from for robbing.
Working the night shift as a toll collector on a lonely stretch of highway in Buffalo, New York, Henry is a man seemingly without ambition, dreams, or purpose; a man sleepwalking his way through life. His wife Debbie is not happy with the situation. One morning Eddie, a friend, drops by to ask Henry to play in a baseball game, as one of the others is ill, and Henry agrees. As they drive to the game in Henry’s car, Eddie asks Henry to stop at an ATM. But Eddie, and two acquaintances also in the car, instead rob the Buffalo Savings Bank, and Henry is arrested as an accomplice.
Debbie decides to divorce him, and she marries Joe, one of her acquaintances. Upon his release eighteen months later, Henry finds his purpose.
Having done the time, he decides he may as well commit the crime. Discovering a long forgotten bootlegger’s tunnel which runs from the very same bank to a theater across the alleyway, he convinces the reluctant Max to file for his long overdue parole – to help stage a robbery of the bank. Max encourages Henry to become an actor in the theater’s current production of Anton Chekhov’s 1904 play The Cherry Orchard, to assist Max, “volunteering” to work in the theater, in getting access to the tunnel. Meanwhile, Henry finds himself falling for the production’s mercurial leading lady, Julie.
Review of Henry’s Crime (2010 Movie):
I understand why some people did not like this very good film – it is slower, and it is not The Matrix, or Konstantin. This is very good work, and yes, Keanu’s character is a bit slow, silent, and detached – but here is what he is like. His part of a con-man is a great plus, and his part is almost the best in here. Vera Farmiga is another great plus of the movie, her part as a Russian theater actress is very cool, too.
She is a perfect Diva here and does it in an extremely convincing way. Well, yes, the movie is not a fast and furious action one, but this was not the intent. The very theater style of the film is obvious, and the nice link to Chekhov’s play is a warm heart-thawing welcome for all Russian viewers. Keanu is a very good Lopakhin and Vera is a very sweet Ranevskaya. The casting was done very well, and this stellar ensemble of actors is a mighty element of the great movie.
