The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption 2012 Synopsis:
Mathayus’s sorceress-queen is killed by a pest that ravaged his kingdom until it fell. Feeling guilty and a failure, the Akkadian resumed the life of a mercenary. He’s hired by Horus, king of the now dominant Near eastern kingdom, to help out defend the palace of Hindu king Ramusan, guardian of the Book of the Death, the last ally barring the bid for Horus’s throne by his rogue brother Talus, whose raids in the Far East yielded the largest army ever. Mathias is instructed to team up with the simpleton Teutonic giant Olaf.
Review of The Scorpion King 3 (2012 M2012Movie):
The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption is a 2012 direct-to-video action-war fantasy film released on January 10, 2012. It is the third instalment in The Scorpion King series OK, this is not Conan and it’s not ‘really’ Scorpion King in anything but name. But having said that, I think other reviewers are being too harsh. I found this movie to be an enjoyable evening’s diversion. The action sequences are fun to watch, the acting is decent (if a bit hammy in places), and the storyline is pretty good. The settings are richly decorated and the battle scenes look fairly well done. In other words, there is nothing spectacular here, but it certainly is not lacking in charm.
Billy Zane is evil fun as always, with the glare and voice that exude malevolence. Victor Webster does a decent job as Mathayus, giving him a good blend of humour and sad weariness. Bostin Christopher started as a bit too buffoonish as Olaf but grew on me as the movie progressed. And Krystal Vee is a delight as Silda, a role she fills with surprising depth. The film has enough action and plot twists to keep you entertained, just don’t be looking for high cinema.
