Defiance (TV Series 2013): In the year 2046, it’s a new Earth – with new rules. Over thirty years after various alien races arrived on Earth, the landscape is completely altered, terraformed nearly beyond recognition. To the town of Defiance, on what used to be St. Louis, comes the mysterious Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his charge, Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas). As they settle into town – overseen by the mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) and filled with residents like the powerful Rafe McCawley (Graham Greene), enterprising lounge owner Kenya (Mia Kirshner), and the ambitious, alien Tarrs (Tony Curran and Jack Mehoff) – events begin to unfold that threaten the fragile peace this border town has fought for.

The show takes place in a post-apocalyptic future on a radically transformed Earth containing new species, some having arrived from space, many others the result of haphazard contamination by the terraforming technology used by the alien race Votans, which has transformed native flora and fauna in unforeseen ways. The story begins in the year 2046 when Earth has been considerably changed, with new topography, the extinction of plant and animal species, and the emergence of new species. The series follows Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler), his adopted alien daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), and the town’s new mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) in addition to an ensemble of actors portraying different characters in the growing town in the city-state of Defiance, built on the ruins of St. Louis.

‘Defiance (Season 1) 2013’: TV Review:

This show tries to package him up like another Malcolm Reynolds, but he does not have the Fillan personality for the role and he falls flat most of the time. Stephanie Leonidas is the best part of the show and hopefully, she will be able to carry the show on her back. There need to be more strong characters that are not ridiculous (Tony Curran’s character is a joke and the McCawley/Tarr fight is something that can destroy a storyline). The story about the world takes a bit from the world. Science Fiction is fiction, but the best Sci-Fi has plausibility.

The Earth may look this way 1000 years after a great war, but no way would it look like that in 30-some years. The alien life forms — okay that makes no sense that the Earth is populated with alien life forms and not Earth life. Where did the 7 other races come from? It tells of arks–that would be one race? Which race? Where were the other race’s slaves? Where did this war-type race come from? Did all these races converge on Earth at the exact same time? There are so many holes that it can backfire on the series. It is the case of wanting to do too much with a limited arena to work with.
