Black Water 2: Abyss 2020 Movie – Storyline:
Five friends exploring a remote cave system in Northern Australia find themselves threatened by a hungry crocodile.
Two Japanese tourists get lost in the forest of Australia and fall into the remote cave, the home of the beast, where they are ambushed and killed.
Five enthusiast explorers; Cash (Anthony Sharpe), Eric (Luke Mitchell) Jennifer (Jessica McNamee), Victor (Benjamin Hoetjes), and Yolanda (Amali Golden) go to check out the cave that Cash previously discovered. Cash brushes off a storm warning from the weather app and they continue on into the cave. They follow a tunnel down to an open lake. Unbeknownst to the group, it begins to rain and the cave begins to flood, soon the path they came up is now submerged underwater. They begin to look for a way out but are unaware of the presence of the beast. Victor sees something in the water and leaves the group to retrieve it.
He is attacked by the beast but survives with critical injuries. Cash and Eric leave to look for an exit while the others stay behind. Swimming back underwater to the tunnel that they came through, they reach the exit and find it’s blocked with rocks. They then decide to go back and look for another way. Eric’s foot gets trapped between some rocks and nearly drowns while Cash makes it back to the first tunnel, but is soon attacked by the beast and killed. Eric reaches the tunnel only to see Cash’s headlight in the water. He returns to the group. (To be continued)
Black Water: Abyss Full Movie Review:
Luke Mitchell is one of those actors that the camera really loves – especially when he is wet; unfortunately, though, he isn’t the only thing that is a bit wet about this. He leads a group of friends on a cave dive in the remote Queensland Forest where only days earlier, a couple of tourists had gone missing. Initially, all goes well until a thunderstorm above floods their caves and they find themselves on the menu for a particularly nasty crocodile as they try to get back to the surface.
At times, the direction and lighting do create quite a tense, claustrophobic, atmosphere and it reminded me why I would never want to get into any sort of hole in the ground that didn’t have an escalator and train at the end of it. The characterizations are poor, though – the usual melodramatic mix of personal sub-plots that all really just make you contemplate that maybe the croc is just performing a public service – and the wishy-washy ending sort of sums the whole thing up! I can’t say it was worth the money to see on a big screen, but I reckon that is the only way to watch it – it will look very ordinary on the telly.
